Lokpanchayat has played a crucial role in forming women's self-help groups, leading to the establishment of the "Jagrut Mahila Manch" women's organization. This platform empowers women to address governance issues and combat discrimination across 60 villages, providing support to women in distress, including legal assistance for victims of domestic violence.
Since 2012, Lokpanchayat has operated a Short Stay Home accommodating up to 25 women and their children, offering counseling services. Till now Lokpanachayat has provided service of short stay home to more than 1500 women.
Additionally, Lokpanchayat has a unit for manufacturing sanitary pads, recognizing the importance of menstrual hygiene education in rural poor communities.
With its impactful initiatives, Lokpanchayat has empowered over 50,000 women.
Jagrut Mahila Manch (JMM) is a grassroots women's organization dedicated to promoting gender justice and supporting women facing domestic violence. Operating in 40 villages, each JMM is led by three women leaders who form vigilance committees to prevent domestic abuse. They also assist victims by reporting cases to the authorities and advocating for legal action. Moreover, JMMs advocate for women's concerns in community forums and government agencies, striving for gender-friendly facilities and development. Currently, JMMs have a collective membership of 800 women, actively working to create safer and more equitable communities.
Lokpanchayat has established a women and child-friendly shelter home to address the cases of domestic violence in the area effectively. This shelter home provides a safe haven for women and their children, equipped with essential facilities such as secure accommodation, sanitation amenities, nutritious meals, a counseling center, and access to resources for livelihood support. With a capacity to accommodate 25 women along with their children, the shelter home has been instrumental in providing legal relief and support to victims of domestic violence since 2012.
Through this initiative, Lokpanchayat has assisted 1500 women in rebuilding their lives with dignity and renewed aspirations. The shelter home not only offers immediate safety but also empowers women to seek legal recourse and access the resources needed for a better future.
